Roman Around Reviewed

Writer and RemoteGoat reviewer David Harrison came to see Roman Around at the Canal Cafe Theatre. Below I quote the middle chunk where he talks about the structure of the show, and compares me to both Clark Kent and Superman. Two of my favourite comicbook characters

"Ryan Millar wrote and performs this impressively hilarious and educational one man show. The hour is split into two parts.

He begins like a Clark Kent, ambling across the stage to welcome you to your own private tour of Rome's most historical attractions. He appears to be formal, attentive to the audience, and awkwardly awaiting the start of the tour - just like a typical guide with a new group of tourists.

He gets into his stride when he begins describing the formation of Rome, bringing ancestral characters to life with comic impressions. I was surprised at how much I was learning while being entertained by Millar's energetic and enthralling story.

For the second part, Millar becomes his own Superman, confidently interjecting with personal experiences as a tour guide of the city; intergrated into the storytelling of the Rome's most celebrated landmarks. Classic interactions with ignorant tourists, competitive licensed tour guides, and outraged locals provide a buffer to the history lesson, breaking up the tour into manageable chunks.

Both stories captivated the audience; several people were almost crying with laughter at some of the ridiculous encounters and anecdotes that Millar plays out."

Again: a great and very favourable review, thanks for coming and writing it up : )
