Tonight's preview is at the Canal Cafe Theatre in Little Venice. A place I've never been to, but have heard great things about. The good thing is that, after the first preview, I'm feeling even more confident that this show is something special. Personal, relatable, educational, funny, unusual... the comments were effusively positive.
And it wasn't just the comments where I was getting feedback - the laughs during the show also helped me understand parts that the audience didn't love or get, and parts that they really did. I was able to get more familiar with reactions and what to expect.
Now I understand why we do previews. The first one was super-educational, and the pre-show nerves I was wrestling with on monday are more absent today. The confidence builds as does my determination to tease out every laugh and tinker with every moment in order to fine-tune this show, so that when it gets to Edinburgh it'll be a barnstorming fireball of revelatory-educational comedy.
In order to make that work, I'm gonna need mroe people to get in on the ground floor. Hopefully I'll get some decent-sized crowds. Monday was 15 strong - not big, but big enough. I'm hoping that word-of-mouth will build these audiences. Maybe I should've spend more time trying to get people to come, and less working on making it brilliant, but I doubt it.
If you can't make this one, or the FEST show on the 23rd, there's another preview announced for the 28th of July.
Come out and help me shape this show. And be entertained. And laugh.
